Jefferson Memorial

August 12th, 2006 Posted in Mike's random typing..., Pictures, Virginia

After living in northern Virginia for more than two years, I’ve finally made it out to see the Jefferson Memorial. Compared to the last few weeks, today seems like a fall day even though it is above 80°F. The humidity is so much lower today. A perfect environment for a long walk around the Mall.

Here’s the view from the outside of the memorial looking from the direction of the Washington Monument (obviously a lot closer than the monument).

And now a close-up of the statue. There is construction in progress on the memorial, so I couldn’t get that great of a picture.

Finally, a picture of the view from in front of the Jefferson Memorial towards the Washington Monument and the White House (lower left side).

I walked from the Air and Space Museum to the National Gallery of Art to see what’s new there. From there, I stopped into the Natural History Museum to see when “Aliens of the Deep” was playing on IMAX. Then I thought it would be a great idea to walk down to the Jefferson Memorial. As you can tell, I made it there. It was probably a nicer walk than memorial. I also saw that FDR Memorial, but I did not feel like taking pictures of it. I walked back to the WWII Memorial and then up to the Cosi near work and the FBI building. As I finished eating, I realized the “Aliens of the Deep” movie was starting in 10 minutes, so I rushed over, got a ticket and watched the movie. I think it might top “Magnificent Desolation” as my favorite IMAX movie.
